Position Overview

The Surfacing Artist works with the Surfacing Supervisor or Lead to establish the look and qualities of characters, props, and environments for assigned assets, creates UV's, textures and shaders for models supplied by the Modeling Department, maintains a convention of file naming structures for all shots, and maintains tidiness and organization of working files. This role is required to keep the Surfacing Lead aware of any production problems and to perform additional duties as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with Surfacing Supervisor or Lead to establish the look and qualities of characters, props, and environments for assigned assets with direction from the VFX Supervisor, Art Director, and Surfacing Supervisor, and ensure that Surfacing files are complete and ready for lighting
  • Create the following for models supplied by the Modeling Department
  • UV's
  • Textures
  • Shaders
  • Maintain a convention of file naming structures for all shots that is compatible within the Arc Productions pipeline
  • Maintain tidiness and organization of working files (directories, .ma scenes, .iff textures, Photoshop PSDs)
  • Keep Surfacing Lead aware of any production problems
  • Perform additional duties as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of high-end CG animation production experience
  • Strong painting skills with an artistic eye for detail
  • Basic understanding of animation styles and techniques as well as an excellent comprehension of animation production for film and/or television
  • Basic understanding of the animation production pipeline as a whole
  • Good problem-solving skills

We are looking for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in game audio and who wants to learn all aspects of what it takes to create, edit, implement and fine tune audio during the development process. Some of the intern's responsibilities will include sound effect design and creation, assistance with dialogue editing and processing, stub dialogue recording and preparation, sound effect material mapping, reverb volume placement in the game world using internal tools, attachment of sound effects to animations, audio/video capture, and music and sound effect scripting in Wwise and internal tools.

Internship Qualifications

Candidates must be enrolled at a college or university and working toward a degree with an emphasis on audio production, recording or engineering, preferably within the game development field. Candidates should be energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, have a passion for video games, and an understanding of what makes them fun (or not), and be willing to work hard. Basic familiarity with audio production and editing software such as Pro Tools or Sound Forge is required. Additional experience with field recording and microphone setups, dialogue editing, sound effect creation and editing and post-processing preferred. Previous experience using Wwise is a plus but not required.

Students must be available to intern 5 days per week/ approx. 40+ hours a week, and this is a paid internship. Duration of internship is flexible. This internship is based in our Burbank, California office. Relocation reimbursements or housing stipends are not available for this position.

      2D/UI Artist for Next Gen MMO (INDUSTRY - Game Dev)

      Overview/h3>

      Paragon Studios, a software game development studio focused on creating outstanding innovative Massively Multiplayer Games (MMORPGs), is seeking a talented, experienced 2D UI Artist. This individual will be primarily responsible for the design, creation and implementation of 2D user interface graphics for an exciting new IP. The job position is based at their Mountain View, CA location. A strong background in traditional illustration and proficiency in creating small resolution pixel art is required, as well as a strong understanding of both interface design, and user experience. This candidate will work closely with artists, designers and programmers to create highly polished in-game icons and interface.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities include at least the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

      Qualification/requirements

      • Mastery of Photoshop and Illustrator. Flash knowledge preferred.
      • Experience working with Scaleform a definite advantage.
      • Superb digital/traditional art skills and techniques.
      • Experience creating icon/pixel art for UI, web, or games.
      • Strong understanding of user interface design, and user experience.
      • Excellent communication and team skills.
      • Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic.

      Education/Training/Experience

      • 2-3 years of professional or related educational experience working as an interface or graphic designer in computer gaming or a related field

      Physical Demands of Position

      • Work is usually performed in an office setting and could involve sitting, standing, walking for long periods of time throughout the day.
      • This position requires considerable concentration and creativity. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, internal and external customer needs, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.
