Compare Mobile Web Frameworks

  • I recently released a native iOS app, but am beginning to wish we hadn't gone native, but had instead built a mobile HTML5 app. We're a startup, and we need quick turnaround for bug fixes and feature additions, and waiting two weeks for Apple to approve our app every time we want to make a change has become a liability. Even worse is having to retract and restart our app store submissions when we get rejections from Facebook over our Open Graph integration, which requires Facebook approval.

The solution appears to be to build a mobile web app, because then we can turn things around instantly, just like we do for the web. I did some digging around for mobile web app development frameworks and came up with a short list to evaluate. The top two on my list, based on the impressions I got from their overviews and a quick skim of the blogosphere, were Sencha Touch Two and jQuery Mobile.

I'd like to hear about people's experiences with these frameworks (or others
they like). What did you like about them? What did you dislike about them? Are there limitations that are hard to live with? Are you happy (or unhappy) with the way your app looks and behaves? How well did these cope with varying screen dimensions? Can you access device capabilities such as the GPS and camera? Could we see some demos and code samples so we can get a sense of what these frameworks are like?
