Cogswell’s summer camps immerse students in a concentrated learning program that provides hands-on experience in a cutting-edge environment. Join other creative teens who share your passion for game design, 3D modeling, physics or digital music production. Our summer camps also offer students the chance to prepare for college by taking cutting edge classes in a fun hands on environment.

Maya Boot Camp

Session 1: August 4th -8th
Session 2: August 11th -15th

$480 per person (per session)

Monday – Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm

3D modeling skills and animation are used everywhere – commercial TV, print ads, movies and games – and you want to turn your creativity loose with these great tools. Using one of the computer graphics industry's most widely used software packages, Maya Boot Camp will enable you to design your own projects. Students will learn the basic tool set and then progress to small projects. They will be introduced to basic 3D graphics theory as well as practical techniques. Cogswell alumni and faculty have used this Academy Award winning 3D software package to create films like Toy Story, The Incredibles and Lord of the Rings. You will learn to use this software to produce 3D models, animation and special effects. This camp fills quickly every year.

The Game Workshop

Session 1: August 4th -8th
Session 2: August 11th -15th

$480 per person (per session)

Monday – Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm

The Game Workshop is a fast-paced, intensive, hands-on course where students learn about the history of video games, how they are made and the basics of good game design. They will also have opportunities to build their own original card and board games while learning how to work collaboratively to turn their game ideas into reality. No prior computer software experience is required but a desire to learn and willingness to work hard is encouraged.

Digital Music Production

August 4th -8th

$480 per person

Monday – Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm

Do songs fill your thoughts? Do you dream of creating your own professional quality CDs? Music production has never been easier. Powerful software – such as Reason from Propellerhead Software – allows aspiring musicians to create great sounding sequences. Now you can learn how to make custom instruments, apply special effects and master the end product to disc. You will also receive inside tips on how to make your work sound its best and how to structure your ideas into songs. By the end of the week, you will have a CD of your work that you will be proud to share.

Physics Made Fun

August 4th-8th

$225 per person

Have you ever wondered how things move, what causes waves or why magnets stick together? Experience the joy of learning in a fun and lively environment. Our camp will stimulate interest in science and provide practical preparation for high school physics courses. Through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, exciting projects, discussions, and problem-solving, campers will learn about motion, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics and the basics of the Theory of Relativity. At the end of each program, a field trip to the Stanford Linear Accelerator will expose campers to science in progress at one of the world’s premier sites for physics research.
