Cogswell Student Housing is at the Parkside Apartment complex in Sunnyvale, CA. Parkside is less than three miles from campus and public bus routes are nearby. Student Housing is designed to provide first year students with a safe, comfortable and fun community in which to learn, work and socialize. It also prepares them to live on their own while still having the support of the Student Life staff.

What Does Student Housing Provide?

Each student housing package consists of rent for the term (4 months); furniture (twin bed, dresser, nightstand, desk, sofa and chair, dining table with chairs, and lamps.); electricity (up to $100 per month); water and sewer; and an RA program (peer mentoring, free student activities, etc.). Students are responsible for making their own phone, internet, and cable TV arrangements.

What is the Cost of Student Housing?

Housing fees for each term are due at registration. Students housed in shared rooms for a fee of $3,000 per term.

Eligible students are guaranteed a space in a shared room. Students with special concerns should inform the Housing Office when applying for student housing.

A $300 housing deposit is required of all housing students and must be sent in full with the housing application in order to reserve a space. If you are unable to provide this deposit at the time of application, please contact the Housing Office and a deferment may be arranged. This deposit will cover the student as long as they remain in housing, and will be used to cover cleaning and any damages to their apartment at the end of each term.

Who is Eligible for Student Housing?

To be eligible for student housing, Cogswell students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits in the Fall and Spring term and enrolled in at least 6 credits in the Summer term. Students must also maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good judicial standing.

Housing is for first-time, out-of-town students who live more than 40 miles away from the Cogswell Campus.

Students who do not meet one or more of the eligibility requirements but still wish to live in Housing may petition the Housing Office to do so. These students should attach a written petition to their housing application explaining why they should be granted housing.

Local Transportation

Sunnyvale is served by the Valley Transit Authority’s (VTA) local buses, light rail, and Caltrain. Students can get from campus to housing on the VTA bus line #26. Buses, Light Rail and CalTrain can take students from San Jose to San Francisco and most places in between. Route and ticket information is available at www.vta.org or www.caltrain.com

Living in Silicon Valley

Sunnyvale is a great community with many opportunities for students. The downtown area along Mary Street offers a wide variety of restaurants and shops. Nearby is the Sunnyvale Town Center (currently under construction) with Macy's and Target. Throughout the summer Sunnyvale hosts a downtown "street fair" each Wednesday with live music and a farmers' market.
